Add all the 3 ingredients in a saucepan. Mix and bring to boil. Lower the heat and let it simmer for 10 minutes. Note, the sauce will thicken more when cooled.
How to use caramel sauce that is sitting in the fridge?
You can use it by warming it up. Always store caramel sauce in a glass container. This makes it safe and easy to warm. There are three ways you can warm up the caramel sauce from the fridge, one way is to place the container in microwave and heat for a few seconds. Start with 20 seconds and then increment by 10 second time slot if required to warm more. The second way is by placing the glass container in hot water for a few minutes, stirring the sauce occasionally to distribute heat evenly. The third way is by pouring caramel sauce in saucepan and heating on the gas top.
How to alter caramel sauce consistency?
If you want the sauce to be thick then simmer for a longer time. If you want to thin the sauce then add more cream to the sauce and heat only till it is melted.
Variations to caramel sauce?
My recipe makes the simple caramel sauce. You can elevate it by adding other ingredients to compliment your dessert.
Salted Caramel Sauce - Add 1/4 tsp salt while boiling Caramel Sauce.
Spiced Caramel Sauce - Add 1/4 tsp of any spice of your choice. I sometimes add Ginger powder or Cardamom powder or crushed black pepper depending on what I am using the sauce for.
Nutty Caramel Sauce - Add coarsely crushed nuts of your choice for that extra crunch.
What all dishes can we use caramel sauce for?
The use of caramel sauce is endless. You can be creative and pair it with any dessert. I commonly use it to pour-over sticky date pudding. Sometimes I also drizzle salted caramel sauce over ice cream. You can also use it in between cake layers or make a top layer of cheesecake. My kids love to drizzle caramel sauce over pancakes for breakfast.
Note that caramel sauce has a very sweet profile, so when pairing, makes sure there is some tart or salty flavour in the dessert to compliment the sauce's sweetness.
